Location: KaingU Safari Lodge is located in the Namwala GMA, park fees do apply if you choose to arrive via the Kafue National Park and to do activities on the river and in the park. Please note that park fees apply for all activities in the Kafue National Park, of which the whole river is part. Escort fees for guided walks apply in the GMA and the KNP. Kindly note that not all activities are available all the time as certain variables such as river levels and season can affect activities. Prices are per person if not stated otherwise. All drinks consumed on activities are chargeable.

Boating (KNP): Take a cruise on arguably the most stunning stretch of the Kafue river; look out for hippos and mammals coming to the edge of the river; great photographic opportunities for birders.

Guided Walks in the KNP max 6 people: (DNPW escort fee of $15 per day applies) 2-3 hour nature walk looking for the things you miss on the drive; max 6 people; including transfer to National Park by boat: $35

Explore unguided: Walk to the Rapids (GMA; 5 15 min walk) Starting at the southern side of the Rapids camp sites, a short foot path marked with white arrows leads you towords the noisy granite rock rapids; good foot wear is required; do not walk alone (follow the African saying: walk alone to be fast, walk together to be safe); be aware of your surroundings you could come across dangerous animals; keep a distance from the water there are crocodiles in the river! Take a book along to stay a while and look out for otters.

Selfdrive to Puku Hide (GMA) The shaded and camouflaged Puku hide overlooks a little dambo. Take your time and sit quietly to see what comes by. Wear good foot wear, bring binoculars & books. Drive along the road out of camp and take the first left turn; check the surroundings before leaving your vehicle!

Guided Walks in the GMA: (DNPW escort fee of $20 per day applies) Mpamba Rock Guided nature walk through Miombo forest and along dambos on which our Guide will explain animal tracks and signs you come across, as well as plants and trees and their properties . The walk up the Mpamba Rock is easy and you will have a great view and experience an African sunset over the Kafue National Park; the walk takes about 1½ hours (one way); if done towards sunset we will pick you up by car; wear good foot wear.

Nature Walks Longer nature walks e.g. along the Zhibakamwale rock formations and through Puku Hide, dambos or Island Explorations; Rock hopping (good physical condition required) Explore the rock formations below the rapids, climb over and on top of giant boulders and discover & refresh in natural pools;

Visit the KaingU Community School & village (GMA): KaingU village is the home of most of our staff members. Expect real African villages, still quite traditional, nothing staged; kindly respect people’s homes; The Community School was built by the KaingU Trust to which every guest contributes by staying with us $10 lodging / $3camping. The drive to Itumbi School takes about 1 ½ hours, the whole trip will be about 4 hours. Price per trip max 4 people (LONG ACTIVITY) $120

Sleep out: Add an overnight sleep out, on an island or on Mpamba Rock, to your stay at KaingU. Nature walks are a great way for the whole family to explore the untamed wilderness around us. Our specialist guides will explain how to read the spoor of animals, identify insects and birds and explain which plants are useful for survival in the bush. Boat cruises and fishing on our magnificent part of the Kafue River are memorable. Rock hopping on our trail to the rapids is great fun (and also a good work out!). In the hotter month a visit to our natural plunge pool in the rapids near camp provides refreshment. Kids and youngsters will learn how to make a rope of tree fibre and their own bows and arrows, which can than be used to practice their shooting skills by protecting our straw antelopes from ‘poachers’. Our chefs are delighted to have hands on assistance in baking fresh ‘hippo rolls’ or preparing for stick bread to be baked around the fire pit in the evening.

Accommodation

Finfoot family house: 2 bedrooms (one queen, one twin), 2 en suite bathrooms plus outside showers and a central living area opening onto a private deck overlooking the river. Extra beds can be added to our Tented Chalets for up to 2 kids. Children under the age of 5 years: free of charge if sharing with 2 adults. Children under 12 years: 50% off if sharing with 2 adults.

Kaingu Camping

Our private campsites are for independent travellers seeking to explore remote wilderness at their own pace. USD28 per person per night The three sites are separate to the lodge and each take only one group of guest with max. two cars and six people. Activities, meals and laundry can be organised through the lodge, but lodge facilities are not part of the campsite. Rates include: camping facilities (private ablution block, washing up area, braai facility) and one bundle of firewood per day as provided, Kafue Conservation & Community Levies of $3 per person per night Rates exclude: lodge facilities (bar, lounge, deck, tea & coffee station), activities, parkfess, etc. Please note:  Kindly note that there is no power available at the camp sites, however you are welcome to charge any batteries at the lodge.  Fridge/freezer space is not available.  Freshly baked bread, ice and laundry service might be available on request and extra charge:  bread per loaf: $3  ice per kg: $4  laundry wash & fold, per 10ltr bucket: $5  Meals: kindly enquire availability of meals at the lodge central area and pre book with 12 hrs notice, price per person:  full breakfast $15  light lunch: $15  three course dinner: $35  Activities: We have a wide range of activities for your enjoyment.
